Hunter Shiraz is medium-bodied and earthy — closer in spirit to the northern Rhône, or even old Burgundy, than to blockbuster Australia. The 2019 gives you red plum and cherry rather than black fruit, wrapped in leather, dried herbs, warm earth and a gentle savoury spice. Older French oak shapes it quietly in the background. What really marks it out is the texture: silky, fine-boned, almost weightless for a wine with this much going on, with soft tannins and a long, savoury finish.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt flatters food and rewards patience.
